Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 29 August 2026

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern access to and use of ZAWJ, a privately operated matchmaking platform based in Denmark.

By creating an account or using ZAWJ, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully before registering.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not create an account or use the service.

1. About ZAWJ

ZAWJ is a private, matchmaker-led platform intended to help adults seeking marriage identify potentially suitable prospective spouses.

ZAWJ is not designed as a dating app, social network or public directory of candidates.

Users do not receive unrestricted access to browse, search or swipe through candidate profiles.

Instead, users provide information about themselves, their background and what they are looking for in a prospective spouse. ZAWJ matchmakers use this information to consider potentially suitable candidates and, where appropriate, facilitate an introduction.

ZAWJ facilitates introductions. It does not arrange, approve or guarantee marriages.

2. Eligibility

To register as a candidate on ZAWJ, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be legally capable of agreeing to these Terms
  • Be genuinely seeking marriage
  • Provide information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • Use ZAWJ for its intended matrimonial purpose

ZAWJ may refuse, restrict or terminate access where there is reasonable reason to believe that these requirements are not met.

3. Creating an account

Creating a ZAWJ account is free.

During registration, you may be asked to provide information such as your name, email address, telephone number and other information necessary to create and manage your account.

You are responsible for ensuring that the information associated with your account is accurate and reasonably up to date.

You must not:

  • Create an account using a false identity
  • Impersonate another person
  • Knowingly provide materially false or misleading information
  • Create multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions
  • Allow unauthorised access to your account
  • Access another person's account without permission

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.

If you believe your account has been accessed without permission, you should contact ZAWJ promptly.

4. Biodata and profile information

ZAWJ allows users to provide biodata relevant to matrimonial matchmaking.

This may include information concerning:

  • Age
  • Marital status
  • Education
  • Profession
  • Family background
  • Nationality or cultural background
  • Languages
  • Religious beliefs and practice
  • Lifestyle
  • Personal characteristics
  • Marriage intentions
  • Photographs
  • Other information considered relevant to marriage

Information provided should be truthful and accurate to the best of your knowledge.

You should not intentionally provide or omit information in a way that would materially mislead a prospective spouse.

ZAWJ may request clarification, correction or removal of information where appropriate.

5. Partner preferences

Users may provide preferences describing what they are looking for in a prospective spouse.

Preferences may relate to matters such as age, location, education, profession, family background, cultural background, religious practice, marital status and lifestyle.

These preferences help guide the matchmaking process.

Providing a preference does not guarantee that ZAWJ will identify a candidate satisfying every criterion.

Matchmakers may consider the overall circumstances and information provided by both sides when considering whether a potential introduction may be appropriate.

6. Matchmaker-led service

ZAWJ uses a human-led matchmaking approach.

Users do not search through or swipe through other candidate profiles.

ZAWJ's matchmakers may review biodata, preferences and other relevant information to identify potentially suitable candidates.

Matchmakers have discretion when considering whether a potential introduction appears appropriate.

Registration with ZAWJ does not guarantee:

  • That a suitable candidate will be found
  • A particular number of potential matches
  • A particular number of introductions
  • That a particular person will be introduced
  • That another candidate will be interested
  • That an introduction will progress
  • Compatibility between candidates
  • Engagement
  • Marriage
  • The success or duration of a marriage or relationship

Matchmaking is personal and subjective, and no particular outcome can be guaranteed.

7. Introductions

Where a matchmaker identifies a potentially suitable candidate, ZAWJ may approach the relevant parties before facilitating an introduction.

Being identified as a potential match does not create an obligation to proceed.

Either party may decline an introduction.

If an introduction has already begun, either party may decide not to continue.

Users must respect another person's decision not to proceed.

Repeatedly contacting, pressuring or attempting to circumvent a person's decision not to continue is not permitted.

8. Candidate information

Registration with ZAWJ does not provide unrestricted access to other candidates' profiles or biodata.

Candidate information may be disclosed when appropriate as part of the matchmaking process.

Information may be shared progressively depending on the stage of a potential introduction.

Receiving information about another candidate does not give permission to publish, distribute, store for unrelated purposes or otherwise misuse that information.

9. Photographs

Photographs submitted to ZAWJ are intended for use within the private matchmaking process.

You must only provide photographs that you have the right to provide.

You must not submit:

  • Photographs falsely representing another person as yourself
  • Explicit or inappropriate images
  • Unlawful material
  • Images intended to deceive prospective candidates
  • Images belonging to another person without appropriate permission

ZAWJ may remove photographs considered inappropriate or inconsistent with the purpose of the service.

Candidate photographs must not be published, redistributed or shared outside the legitimate matchmaking process without appropriate permission.

10. Family involvement

ZAWJ recognises that marriage discussions often involve parents, guardians or other family members.

In some families, a parent or family member may initiate or assist with the search for a prospective spouse.

Family involvement is permitted and may form part of the matchmaking process.

Where someone provides personal information about another adult, they must have appropriate permission to provide that information.

A family member must not knowingly create or maintain a candidate profile against the wishes of the person concerned.

ZAWJ may request confirmation directly from the prospective candidate before an introduction progresses.

The person considering marriage must ultimately be able to make their own decision regarding an introduction and marriage.

11. Respectful conduct

Users and others participating in the matchmaking process are expected to behave respectfully.

ZAWJ must not be used to:

  • Harass, threaten or intimidate another person
  • Send abusive or sexually inappropriate communications
  • Pressure someone to accept or continue an introduction
  • Obtain personal information under false pretences
  • Repeatedly contact someone who has declined further communication
  • Engage in fraud or financial exploitation
  • Solicit money from candidates
  • Promote unrelated products or services
  • Recruit candidates for another platform
  • Collect candidate information for commercial purposes
  • Use the platform for casual dating
  • Use the platform for purposes unrelated to genuine matrimonial introductions

ZAWJ may restrict or terminate access where behaviour creates a safety concern or materially undermines the purpose of the service.

12. Verification and accuracy

ZAWJ may use reasonable measures to verify certain information, such as contact details, account ownership or identity.

However, unless ZAWJ expressly states that particular information has been independently verified, users should not assume that it has been.

ZAWJ cannot guarantee the accuracy, truthfulness or completeness of all information supplied by candidates, parents, family members or other participants.

Users and their families remain responsible for making appropriate enquiries before making significant personal decisions.

13. Personal safety

ZAWJ facilitates introductions but cannot control interactions that take place independently between candidates, families or other participants.

Users should exercise reasonable judgement when communicating with or meeting another person.

Before making significant commitments, users should independently satisfy themselves regarding matters important to them.

Family members or other trusted people may be involved where appropriate.

Users should independently verify important information rather than relying solely on information presented during the matchmaking process.

Never send money or provide banking credentials or other sensitive financial information to another candidate solely because they were introduced through ZAWJ.

Suspicious behaviour should be reported to ZAWJ.

14. Decisions concerning marriage

Marriage is a significant personal decision.

ZAWJ and its matchmakers may assist in identifying and introducing potential candidates, but they do not make marriage decisions on behalf of candidates or their families.

An introduction through ZAWJ should not be interpreted as:

  • A recommendation to marry
  • A guarantee of compatibility
  • An endorsement of a person's character
  • Confirmation that all information supplied is correct
  • A guarantee concerning future behaviour
  • Legal advice
  • Financial advice
  • Religious advice
  • Medical or psychological advice

Candidates and their families remain responsible for their own decisions.

15. Religious considerations

ZAWJ is intended to provide a matchmaking environment suitable for Muslims seeking marriage.

However, ZAWJ does not provide religious rulings or professional religious advice.

References to Islamic practices, values or terminology should not be interpreted as a religious ruling or a guarantee that a particular interaction, candidate, decision or marriage satisfies every interpretation of Islamic law.

Where religious guidance is required, users should seek advice from an appropriate trusted religious authority.

16. Privacy and confidentiality

Personal information is handled in accordance with the ZAWJ Privacy Policy.

Information received about another candidate through ZAWJ should be treated as private.

Without appropriate permission, users must not:

  • Publish another candidate's biodata
  • Publish their photographs
  • Post screenshots of candidate information
  • Upload candidate information to social media
  • Create or maintain databases of ZAWJ candidates
  • Use candidate information for advertising or marketing
  • Provide candidate information to unrelated third parties

Reasonable sharing with parents, guardians or family members genuinely involved in considering a marriage may be appropriate, provided that the information continues to be treated privately and respectfully.

17. Misuse of ZAWJ

You must not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to ZAWJ
  • Circumvent security measures
  • Scrape or systematically extract information
  • Use automated tools to collect candidate information
  • Interfere with the operation of the service
  • Introduce malicious software
  • Attempt to access another user's account
  • Attempt to discover or exploit security vulnerabilities without permission
  • Use information obtained through ZAWJ for unlawful purposes

ZAWJ may take appropriate technical or legal measures to protect the platform and its users.

18. Account suspension and termination

ZAWJ may restrict, suspend or terminate an account where reasonably necessary, including where:

  • These Terms have been materially breached
  • False or seriously misleading information has been provided
  • There are reasonable concerns about fraud
  • There are reasonable safety concerns
  • Another person is being harassed
  • Candidate information has been misused
  • The service is being used for purposes unrelated to marriage
  • A user attempts to circumvent platform restrictions
  • Continued access could create legal or security risks
  • Continued access could adversely affect other users or the integrity of ZAWJ

Where appropriate and reasonably possible, ZAWJ may provide notice or an opportunity to address the issue.

Serious fraud, abuse, privacy or safety concerns may result in immediate restriction or termination.

19. Closing an account

Users may stop using ZAWJ and request closure of their account.

Closing an account removes the candidate from active matchmaking.

Personal information associated with a closed account will be handled according to the ZAWJ Privacy Policy and applicable data retention requirements.

20. Registration, fees and paid services

Creating a ZAWJ account and submitting a profile is free.

A free account does not necessarily mean that every service provided through ZAWJ will always be free.

ZAWJ may charge for certain matchmaking services, introductions or additional services.

Where payment is required, the applicable price and what the payment covers will be clearly communicated before the user agrees to purchase or make a payment.

No user will be charged simply because they created a free account or submitted a profile.

Where a paid service is offered, relevant information will be provided before purchase, including where applicable:

  • The price
  • What the payment covers
  • Whether the payment is one-time or recurring
  • The duration of the service, where applicable
  • Any applicable cancellation conditions
  • Any applicable refund conditions

Users are free to decide whether to purchase an optional paid service unless a particular payment is clearly stated as necessary to continue with a specific service.

ZAWJ may introduce, change or discontinue paid services and pricing from time to time.

Changing the price of a service will not retrospectively change the price of a service already purchased unless otherwise agreed or required by law.

Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights available under Danish or European Union law.

21. Payments

Where ZAWJ accepts payments, payments may be processed using a third-party payment provider.

The available payment methods will be displayed when payment is requested.

Users are responsible for providing accurate payment information and ensuring that they are authorised to use the selected payment method.

ZAWJ does not necessarily receive or store complete payment card information where payments are handled directly by a third-party payment provider.

Additional terms from the relevant payment provider may apply.

22. Cancellations and refunds

The cancellation and refund conditions applicable to a paid service will be communicated before the purchase where required.

Whether a payment is refundable may depend on the nature of the service and whether performance of the service has already begun.

Nothing in these Terms removes cancellation, withdrawal, refund or other consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded under applicable Danish or EU law.

23. No payment guarantees an outcome

Payment for a ZAWJ service does not constitute payment for a guaranteed match, engagement or marriage.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, payment relates to the particular matchmaking or related service described at the time of purchase.

A paid service does not guarantee:

  • A successful match
  • A minimum number of suitable candidates
  • Acceptance by another candidate
  • An introduction resulting in further communication
  • Engagement
  • Marriage

The matchmaking process remains dependent on the availability, preferences and decisions of other candidates.

24. Availability of ZAWJ

ZAWJ aims to provide a reliable service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability.

The website or platform may occasionally be unavailable because of:

  • Maintenance
  • Updates
  • Technical problems
  • Security incidents
  • Infrastructure failures
  • Third-party service interruptions
  • Circumstances outside reasonable control

Features may be modified, added or removed as ZAWJ develops.

25. Third-party services

ZAWJ may rely on third-party providers for services such as:

  • Hosting
  • Data storage
  • Authentication
  • Email
  • Communications
  • Security
  • Analytics
  • Payment processing

Third-party services may be governed by their own terms and privacy policies where users interact with those providers directly.

Links to external websites do not necessarily constitute an endorsement of those websites or their content.

26. Intellectual property

The ZAWJ name, website design, text, graphics, software and other original platform content may be protected by applicable intellectual property rights.

Unless permitted by law or expressly authorised, users may not reproduce, distribute or commercially exploit ZAWJ content.

Users retain ownership of original content they provide, including photographs and biodata text.

By providing such content to ZAWJ, users permit ZAWJ to store, process and use that content to the extent reasonably necessary to provide the matchmaking service, subject to the ZAWJ Privacy Policy and applicable law.

27. Limitation of responsibility

ZAWJ provides a service for facilitating matrimonial introductions.

ZAWJ cannot control the decisions, representations, behaviour or actions of candidates, family members or other people outside its reasonable control.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, ZAWJ cannot be held responsible merely because:

  • A candidate provided inaccurate information
  • An introduction was unsuccessful
  • A candidate decided not to proceed
  • Candidates were incompatible
  • Communication ended
  • An engagement did not occur
  • A marriage did not occur
  • A relationship or marriage subsequently ended

This does not exclude or limit responsibility where doing so would be prohibited by applicable Danish or EU law.

Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights.

28. Changes to the service

ZAWJ may develop and modify the service over time.

This may include changes to:

  • Registration
  • Profile information
  • Matchmaking processes
  • Communication methods
  • Available features
  • Free services
  • Paid services
  • Pricing

Where a change materially affects an existing paid service or a user's legal rights, appropriate information or notice will be provided where required.

29. Changes to these Terms

ZAWJ may update these Terms to reflect changes to the platform, matchmaking process, pricing model, security requirements or applicable law.

The latest version will be made available on the ZAWJ website together with its last-updated date.

Where changes materially affect existing users, reasonable notice will be provided where required.

30. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark, subject to mandatory rights and protections available under Danish and European Union law.

Nothing in these Terms removes rights that a consumer cannot lawfully waive.

31. Complaints and disputes

If you have a concern regarding ZAWJ or a paid service, please contact ZAWJ first so the matter can be reviewed.

Users may also have the right to use applicable Danish or European consumer complaint and dispute-resolution procedures.
